Number of Floors: 4
Number of Modules: 44
Number of Bedrooms: 88
Larger than the Blackpool extension, this project comprised 3 floors of modules and contained a lift shaft built onsite through the prepared openings in modules.
Challenges and Resolutions:
The ground floor of the original building was taller than the upper floors and this had to be replicated in the extension. To keep all modules a uniform height, spacer frames were introduced which sat on top of the ground floor modules and corresponded with the required level at first floor.
Close co-ordination was required to ensure the aperture formed for the lift shaft was accurate and enabled easy installation of the shaft on site.
With a fully welded steel plate covering the underside of each module there was reduced need for a gas membrane to the prepared foundations and enabled the contractor to make cost savings. Increased insulation in the ground floor modules also removed the need for an insulated slab, creating further savings.
Continued Success:The relationship with both the hotel operator and the main contractor was extended after completion of this project to include the Hull and Gatwick Premier Inn hotels.
