Number of Floors: 9
Number of Modules: 86
Number of Bedrooms: 125
Following the success of the Warminster project Travelodge increased the scope to include pre-finished ensuite bathrooms and decorated bedrooms to this development. This nine-storey hotel comprised a traditionally built steel frame ground floor with eight levels of V-System modules above. Three different room sizes were used in this hotel resulting in different sized modules to suit each type.
Challenges and Resolutions:
The site in Uxbridge faces the main west London bus depot operating a 24 hour service seven days a week. The site was extremely confined with no storage facilities or lay-down area available for any material deliveries.
By having V-System modules delivered into site, pre-finished the contractor eliminated the need for site storage and mitigated risk through just-in-time delivery and reduced deliveries. As a result disruption to the depot was kept to a minimum. As each lorry arrived at the site the modules were quickly lifted into place located using the patented connector system.
In plan, the Uxbridge Travelodge is non-linear in geometry and is not an obvious choice for a modular solution. However by using a combination of different sized modules and integrated steel-frame design the hotel was completed to exactly match the planning approved design.
Externally the building was finished using a mixture of materials including masonry brick work, rendered insulation and glazed ceramic blocks.
Continued Success:Following the successful erection of this complicated building Travelodge agreed to use the V-System on their larger project near Heathrow airport.
